Sorry I didn't attend the meeting, but I was busy in the shop. One of the questions that came up in the meeting was if the website was backed up regularly or daily.

Answer: No. I usually do a backup before I install a new beta install. And sometimes I do a complete backup before installing the final version. That equates to 1-2 times a month a complete backup of the site is performed.

As with nearly everything in life, the daily backups come at a cost. We are on the borderline of $4.99 and $8.99 a month for a daily backup being performed. That could be added to the package easily. If the website were to get corrupted it could be back up and working in short order with little to nothing lost.

Thanks, Dennis.

I appreciate that you responded to our member's question about backup files.

Thank you for the update Dennisโ€ฆit appears at first glance that the GACE website is open to the public in its entirety as I visited the sight from an independent computer that did not have my credentials, can you verify that to be the case? When the topic of the Board utilizing the website for transparency and documenting votes and each personโ€™s questions I was unaware of the site not being protected or private to members in some areasโ€ฆcan you validate if Iโ€™m getting a true account of the website as it is currently operating? Thank you.

Tobie,

I asked Dennis earlier today once it was brought to my attention tat many areas are not private. I thought only registered users could see past the homepage. I've asked for all forums to be made private for members only.

Thanks for asking the questions. I stay logged in so I never noticed what someone had access to if they are not registered and logged in.

There are certain areas that people registered on the Forums have access to that guests do not. There are certain forums that are only accessible by registered forum members. Unless I goofed somewhere, there is nowhere on here that a guest can post. Less that 1/2 of the available forums on here can be access by guests.

The software had no way of knowing who a paid member of GACE is when they register. Anyone in the US can register on the Forums and have access. The Forums was setup to be a public forum. I suppose someone could write an addon that would only allow paid member access but, then someone has to maintain the list to keep it current. That addon would probably not be cheap. I don't have the knowledge to write such an addon. I don't program in PHP and JS. You could also sell subscriptions but there again, no way of determining who is a paid GACE member and each individual member would have to pay their own subscription. Departments could not purchase a block like they can now. A subscription service could easily be setup with the software but, there again. Joe Blow from Hawaii can buy a subscription.

I can setup or convert a forum to be used for voting but, there again, anyone registered as a member on the Forums would have access to that forum. Most forums allow you to setup a poll that can be used for voting but forum members would have access to vote.
