We have many properties in our City of Gainesville that are not being maintained. Most are vacant lots or abandoned homes. The taxes are up to date, but we can't locate the owners. I remember someone at the Spring Conference saying their City had come up with a process of the City making the corrections on properties and the fee being added to the property tax for each property. Does anyone do this and if so, what is the process ? Thank you for any suggestions.

• Sec. 36-203. - Definitions.

  The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

  Blighted, as applied to a piece of property, means that property is being maintained in a blighted condition.

  Millage rate means only the general millage rate for city maintenance and operations.

  Public officer means the building inspector, code enforcement director, city manager, police officer or any other city official who is authorized by law and this Code to exercise the powers prescribed by this section, or any agent of such officer or officers, or any other employee, officer or officers designated by the city manager for purposes of this section.
