Hello everyone!

Our county is looking into having our code enforcement officers be able to carry a handgun on the job. Is there any training that GACE offers for personal safety? Are there any counties that carry currently?ย

Thanks!

Hello Kathleen,

GACE personnel can respond to your question reference any training provided by GACE regarding personal safety. Classes/courses are offered as listed at GACE conferences. Most agencies, all that I know of,ย  that allow their personnel to carry firearms require P.O.S.T. certification. P.O.S.T. certification is what Police Officers obtain to perform their duties as a Police Officer. Some departments are all Police Officers while others utilize a mix of sworn personnel designated as Marshals and non-sworn personnel as Code Enforcement Officers. Departments that currently carry are Paulding County Marshals, Covington Marshals, Cherokee County Marshals, and many others to name a few. Seek out personnel from these agencies to assist you and answer additional questions. Good luck and stay safe.ย

Kathellen,

Good morning to you. GACE does not offer this type of personal safety training. We do offer elective courseย  "Self Defense" that instructs of some basic personal safety tactics. If you would like a course description please let me our 3rd Vice President - Joyce Depp know and she will be glad to get this info to you.
