Code Enforcement Uniform (R)

I am a certified officer assigned code enforcement. The building inspector and myself was doing an inspection downtown. While doing the inspection, we uncovered an commercial gambling establishments. My uniform consists of polo shirt, Khaki pants, gun handcuffs and extra mag and Code Enforcement badge.

I ended up in a scuffle and charged the offender with (felony) obstruction of an officer. At the probation revocation hearing, the offender argued that he did not know I was a law enforcement officer, since my badge said "Code Enforcement Officer.

I am needing to know if you are a Code Enforcement Officer and a P.O.S.T. Certified Officer if your badge reads POLICE, CODE ENFORCEMENT, DEPUTY ECT.

I would also like to know how your vehicles are marked. (POLICE, SHERIFF, CODE  ENFORCEMENT)

Does your vehicle have blue lights?

City of Forsyth officer has an old blue crown vic but it does have blue lights, siren and radio, it was an old detective car. The badge has code enforcement on it, but in a small town such as this, everyone already knows who I am. However, for safety reasons, I will ask a uniform officer to meet me at certain locations, and I always call out on the radio so they know where I am. This is a safety precaution because you just never know. Not being in uniform has caused a few minor problems but nothing like yours. Your dress is no different than mine, except I wear jeans, and that's more than an undercover drug unit would have and I don't know of a charge that was dropped because of it. It would be interesting to hear what others have experienced.

I believe the City of Chamblee are P.O.S.T. They drive police vehicles but I am not sure about the uniform.

rg577; The City of Albany have combination officer/inspectors, our certified officers wear different uniforms and their vehicles identify them as such. I hope you were not harmed in the scuffle. These scuffles/attacks should be documented so that, in our quest for State recognition our job safety can be discussed with evidence of real incidents.
