Right of Way Question

  • Member

This is a subject i have researched a few days on and havent been able to find a concrete black and white answer so was coming here to see if anyone has any experience or knowledge on the matter. Is it or would it be legal to use an ordinance that would prevent mail boxes or receptacles from being placed in the public right away. From the limited info i have gathered i have inferred that the USPS as a federal entity supersedes local ordinances and regulations onย  public rights of way. TIA for any help

Jerod, you are correct in that the USPS supersedes any local ordinance. What some jurisdictions are doing is placing community mailbox areas in new developments. Otherwise, not much else can be done to my knowledge.
