We in the city of Moultrie will inspect a house prior to occupancy to ensure that the property is fit for occupancy and to identify

any code violations that need correction. We classify these inspection as customer service inspections. We currently have in our

fee schedule a $20.00 fee for these inspections, but up to this time we have not charged this fee but want to start this up. I am looking   

for any department in which this type of fee is charged and how it is collected.

I like this inspection idea. The only inspection fees are those assessed by our building inspectors for new constructions and rehabs. 

Can you send me the language of this ordinance.

Not only am I a code official, but a qualified home inspector, for those who buy property.  Clearly a home  inspection covers far more that any code, however, $20 sure sounds low.  Doing the math (ps., I hate algebra), here is what one might want to account for:  travel - $20, actual CODE INSPECTION your hourly rate plus $10, report (time), your salary + $10, supplies - $7.  A notice round figure feels like $100.00.  There are companies out there that county / cities hire to approve such things as decks, permitted water heaters, electric etc.

Just so you know:  a professional home inspector may charge $300+ dollars.  Time spent runs around 2-3 hrs., and the report time is about 2+ hours.  Travel time is anywhere from 30  minutes to 1 hr. 30 minutes.  But again, I / they are looking for and find far more than code issues.  Sgt.
