Most all jurisdictions have assessed fines up to $1,000. Some have a cavoite in there ordinances that only allow up to $500 in fines and all provide for a maximum jail time where the Judge deems necessary.

You can find most all jurisdiction ordinances on www.municode.comย

For instance: City of Albany providesย

Sec. 1-17. - General penalty; continuing violations
(a)In this section the term "violation of any such provision of this Code or any ordinance" means any of the following:
(1)Doing an act that is prohibited or made or declared unlawful, an offense, a violation or a misdemeanor by ordinance or by rule or regulation authorized by ordinance.
(2)Failure to perform an act that is required to be performed by ordinance or by rule or regulation authorized by ordinance.
(3)Failure to perform an act if the failure is prohibited or is made or declared unlawful, an offense, a violation or a misdemeanor by ordinance or by rule or regulation authorized by ordinance.
(b)Whenever in this Code or in any ordinance of the city any act is prohibited or is made or declared to be unlawful or an offense, or whenever in such Code or ordinance the doing of any act is required or the failure to do any act is declared to be unlawful, where no specific penalty is provided therefor, the violation of any such provision of this Code or any such ordinance shall be punished by a fine not to exceed $1,000.00 or by imprisonment in the guardhouse, city prison or other place provided, or by compulsory labor on the streets orย publicย works not to exceed 180 days or by both fine and imprisonment or labor, or the fine may be imposed with an alternative of such imprisonment or compulsory labor, for each separate violation; provided further, that for violations of the Sewer and Pretreatment Ordinance of the city the maximum amount of a fine shall be $1,000.00.
(c)Each day any violation of this Code or of any ordinance shall continue shall constitute a separate offense.
(d)The imposition of a penalty does not prevent suspension or revocation of a license, permit or franchise or other administrative sanctions.
(e)Violations of this Code that are continuous with respect to time are aย publicย nuisanceย and may be abated by injunctive or other equitable relief. The imposition of a penalty does not prevent injunctive relief.

Yes, ma'am, thank you. I understand the max fines allowed. I was hoping to gain insight on some of the jurisdictions fines generally used, as I have to present a fine comparison to our Council with similar sized jurisdictions and the amounts they commonly use. I have contacted some specific jurisdictions by phone to get some info. Thank you!! ๐Ÿ˜ƒย
